This elegant and sporting 1961 Facel Vega HK500 is finished in pewter grey over grey leather and is generously equipped with a 4-speed Pont-à-Mousson 4-speed manual, twin-carb Hemi Wedge V8, power windows, a Becker Mexico cassette/radio, and rare center lock knock-off wheels by Rudge (four alloy, one wire). It is one of just 55 Facel Vega HK500s built in 1961. It was delivered new to the United States and a plaque on the glove-box door indicates that it was shown at the second annual Le Cercle Concours d'Elegance in Santa Ana, California on April 21, 1968. The subject of a later restoration, the interior looks to have been reupholstered and the car repainted at that time. Not currently running, mechanical servicing is required prior to use. In its relatively short life, the French firm of Facel produced approximately 2,900 cars, all of which were stylish, luxurious and fast. Being hand built, they were, of course, necessarily very expensive – the Facel Vega HK500 was priced in Rolls-Royce territory – and were bought by the rich and famous seeking something exclusive and distinctive. Facel S.A. was a French manufacturer of pressed steel automobile components and, subsequently, complete automobiles of their own design. After the war, in 1945, by merging with Métallon, Facel began to make short-run special bodies, coupés or cabriolets for Simca, Ford of Fran...
